John Dramani Mahama is a former President for the Republic of Ghana, who served as President for Ghana from 24th July 2012 to 7th January 2017 with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
From January 2009 to July 2012, he was served as the Vice President with the Late Prof. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills as President.
John Mahama is the first vice president to take over the presidency from his predecessor; John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, The Late. The tidal wave is an exceptionally large ocean wave, especially one caused by an underwater earthquake or it can be caused by the gravitational interactions between the sun, moon, and the earth.
An example of a Tidal wave is Tsunami, which is a large and sudden rise and fall in the tide. On July 9, 1958, Lituya Bay, Alaska was the largest ever recorded tsunami with over 1,700-foot waves.
It clears hundreds of thousands of trees with five square miles of land. Just recently, Tidal waves have occurred in Keta, Anlo, and Ketu south in the Volta Region, Ghana. After the occurrence of the Tidal wave, the former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has donated items to the victims who suffered from the Tidal wave.
The items include, 1,000 bags of 5kg rice, 2,000 pieces of canned fish, 3,000 pieces of mattresses, 2,000 liters of cooking oil, and 2,000 pieces of canned tomatoes was given to the Members of Parliament in the various constituencies to be shared equally among the victims.
This incident occurred last Saturday and Sunday when a storm struck and flooded a lot of homes in the community in Keta and Ketu south. Collapsing a lot of buildings including school blocks in the Anloga district and honey rendering about 4,000 people homeless. In a speech from the former President, John Mahama at the Keta Municipal Assembly to donate the items.
According to him, after he heard what has happened someplace in the Volta region, he can’t sit there and pretend as if nothing has happened so therefore he has to react and make sure that those victims are not alone.
The items were procured through the assistance of some Ghanaians to support the victims, he added. After the donation, John Mahama has criticized the government for neglecting the victims in the Volta region.
According to the former President, even if the sitting government won’t provide anything for them, just try and pay them a visit to show how you cared about them.
National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has been able to provide some items to the victims but is inadequate.
NADMO doesn’t have adequate resources and I don’t blame them but I’ll blame the sitting government (NPP) for failing to provide them sufficient resources to help the administration to be able to respond to victims especially this recent incident.
The former President did not go there and donate those items to the victims all by himself but he was assisted by the former Chief Of Staff, Julius Debrah, Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Henry Ametefe, the MP for Ketu south and Deputy Chairman of the Volta region, Kobby Woyome.
The residents who were affected by the Saturday Sunday’s Tidal wave expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the former President, John Dramani Mahama.
