What do you know about Coup D’état? Quick Look at Guinea and ECOWAS
Have you heard Coup d’état before?
When we say Coup d’état, it is a French word that means, the removal of government and its powers or is a blow of state and capitalized when it denotes a sovereign political party.
Coup d’etat is usually attached with politics in which the sitting government decides to overuse its powers.
It is then influenced by the power of the Military force to overthrow the sitting government.
In 2017, the study found out that autocratic leaders whose states were involved in international rivalries over disputed territory were more likely to be overthrown in a coup by Military men.
Coup d’etat is an illegal unconstitutional seizure of power by a political faction or military.
Coup d’etat has been the most common in Africa and the Americans with 36.5% and 31.9% respectively. Asia and the Middle East have also experienced 13.1% and 15.8% of total global coups whiles Europe has less experienced with 2.6% respectively.
Hooting is a loud utterance often in protest or opposition. Hooting can be in a form of call, cry, shout. A cry or noise is made to express displeasure or contempt.
Just recently, all the attention is in Guinea which is located in the Western Part of Africa about the recent Coup d’etat.
President of Guinea Alpha Condè was captured by his own country Military men in a coup d’etat after gunfire in the capital town of Guinea, Conakry on 5th September 2021.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya who is the commander of the Special forces and also Alpha Condè personal soldier led his fellow Military men to overthrow the sitting government due to autocratic governance.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya released a broadcast on state television announcing the dissolving of the country’s constitution and have overthrown the sitting government.
It came as a surprise when the news broke down about the happened coup d’etat. Almost all the Guineans were very happy because of the hardship and autocratic governance in the country.
It was even recorded that their colonial masters France, released a statement to the military force to released their President to come and continue to rule the country.
After France released their statement, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya also release a video saying, there’s no way they will ever release Alpha Condè and he is staying with them.
Their main motive of the coup d’etat is, in 2019, Alpha Condè announced that 15% of mining revenue would be dedicated to the National Agency for the financing of local communities to local government as well as introducing measures to raise tax collection from 13% to 15% of GDP.
Guinea holds around a quarter of the World’s bauxite deposit.
President Alpha Condè agreed to several multi-billion dollar projects with the Chinese firms tap new bauxite which the government has 10% shareholder.
It was recorded smugly the attack was provided by the government trying to dismiss a senior member of the country’s special forces.
ECOWAS which is the Economic Community Of West African State in full is s regional political and economic union of fifteen countries in West Africa.

ECOWAS serves as a peacekeeping force in the region, with member states occasionally sending joint Military forces to intervene in member countries St Timex of political tension.
The fifteen countries in which the President of The Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo is their chairman are Benin, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and the Two suspended countries Guinea and Mali.
On Friday, 17th September 2021, the ECOWAS chairman and some delegation including the President of Ivory Coast, His Excellency Alassane Ouattara was seen at the capital city of Guinea, Conakry.
Their main reason was to discuss with the Military leadership of Guinea, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya in the aide to release their President Alpha Condè.
Before the meeting to take place, ECOWAS has already caution and warned them on several occasions to hand over power to the constitutional rule but they didn’t listen.
The arrival of the ECOWAS chairman with his delegation at the capital town of Guinea, Conakry, the people gave them a special welcome.
Later, about a hundred Guineans stormed the place to hoot at them. The people were making a lot of noise that they don’t want to see them in their country and for that matter, they should leave.
It was more than a demonstration because they were holding a lot of placards which says, they are very happy with the coup d’etat happening in their country right now.
One of the placards which were written in French says “C’est le people Guinee quite decidè” which means that “It is the people of Guinea who decide”.
Well, I think they are not far from saying the truth because they have the power to choose the kind of leadership they want in their country.
They want democratic governance, not autocratic governance.
